smile, it’s a good day

Thanks to the inspiring online workshop ‘A year of Creating Time Capsules‘ by Xanthe Berkeley, I made my very first stop-motion movie. It’s very short, but it was fun to see, how it is coming to life. And I lerned already so much at Xanthe’s course and while shooting and editing this little video.

The most important thing besides lighting and composition, is to retain the lens, when it is in manual mode. I touched it somehow when I shot the last pictures and didn’t notice the suddenly blurry photos. Since the movements of the rubberstamps were too messy, I couldn’t reshoot the last photos. But for the very first attempt on stop-motion videos, I’m very happy with the result. Hopefully you like it too. πŸ™‚

minialbum: photo booth fun

minialbum: photo booth fun | momentstolivefor.com

My newest mini album creation. It is one of those projects I started over a year ago but only finished now. Last year I had the idea to use neon in a minialbum and created pages in 4×6 size from grey cardboard for it. Then I used neon tapes (in orange, pink and green) and neon markers to draw patterns on the pages. Sometimes messy, sometimes almost ordered. Because I hadn’t any specific photos in mind to fill in, I created a whole bunch of pages, not knowing how much I would need.

The pages sat almost a year in my backlog until I stumbled about the photos of my 31th birthday party with the photo booth. Perfect for this fun kind of mini. Additionally I found this beautiful neon rainbow string to bind the mini with the japanese stab binding. Although I changed the traditional way up and did it with five holes. I knotted the long loose ends of the string along the book spine with simple knots. Everytime I met a string crossing the spine I integrated it into the knot, therefore the knot string is fixed at the spine. Really treasure this little fun minialbum.

When I gathered the photos for this post, I noticed how many pictures of stamps there are. Now I’m no longer only a washi tape addict, now I’m a rubber stamp addict too. Yikes. With the new alphabet stamps of Green Grass Stamps, I’ve almost filled a second box with mounted rubber stamps. I love to mount even my favorite clear stamps, because this way they are easier to handle.

Motivated through my craft challenge, I’ve already finished two projects, which were sitting in my backlog for over half an year. I’m so happy to have finally completed them – the ‘day in the life’ album from these photos and the ‘photo booth’ neon mini album. Next week I will share the later with you.

Aside from that, I’m working on my art journal in cooperation with Laura and Caylee for ‘Get Messy‘. And made one evening a little moodboard to have a starting point the next morning. It worked very well.

minialbum: inspiration 2014

minialbum: inspirational quotes 2014 | cover | momentstolivefor.com

After the big move I was tired of sorting through endless rows of boxes and putting everything into place. So I did a little scrapbooking. On Pinterest I had a collection of motivational posts and quotes for the new year. Because I couldn’t choose between all these helpful and inspiring quotes, I decided to select more and turn them into a minialbum.

It was fun to use my two stamp and all of my sticker alphabets for this project. I love most about this mini, that it’s that simple. Just typography plus a little color and black & white patterns on the left side for contrast. Now it stands on my shelf above my desk and reminds me of my mantras for this year. Now and then I turn the pages to choose another quote for some time.

what’s on my craft table?

what's on my craft table? - text stamp addiction - momentstolivefor.com

After these text heavy posts, I thought it was time for another photo post. So here are some shots from my craft table. Tables I have to say, because this time I used our large kitchen table too, to paint all of my wooden boxes with a dark walnut-brown stain.

At a local do-it-yourself store I found wooden boxes in different sizes, which fit perfectly into my Ivar shelves to organize my crafty things. I just have to paint them with stain, so they look more beautiful. But that’s only a matter of time, although there are seven big and eight middle sized boxes waiting to be painted. Yikes! But until then I’ve already tested, if all of my stamps and washi tapes fit in there. And they do, perfectly. Although I was a little shocked seeing how much stamps and tapes I’ve got! Is it already an addiction?

Sadly, I can’t get anymore stamps from Elise Blaha. The package arrived of her last sale in her shop. Really, really sorry, that there will be no more. Loved her style on stamps. And truthfully, she started this obsession with text stamps. It’s a good thing, there is no more room in this box for more.

In the meantime I bought two amazing magazines. Wanted to just pick up the new Uppercase magazine and stumpled about Frankie. Such a lovely, creative, beautiful magazine. I’m amazed, that I’ve never heard of it before. And I started a logbook, thanks to Austin Kleon’s book “Steal like an Artist“. It’s a motivating and helpful little book. Read it, it’s fun!

DIY black & white Project Life cards

DIY black & white Project Life cards | momentstolivefor.com

Inspired by these beautiful black & white Project Life cards and postcards, I designed my own set of PL cards. Last year I was in a Project Life hype. I loved the possibilities to capture our everyday so simple and fast in a PL album. And even more than that, I liked the idea of creating my own PL cards. You can see my first set of PL cards here. At the end of the year I got lots of new stamps from Elise Blaha-Cripe (no longer available), Bananafishstudio and I lowe Scrap. I treasure these stamps. And they are perfect for Project Life. So I started to make this card set.

As basis for the cards, I cut 3×4 in white cards from simple card stock. Then I used the lovely stamps and stamped on white and black cardboard with StazOn White and Black ink pad. With two different hole punchers (1” and 2’’) and some manual cutting with scissors I cut the circles. For the different backgrounds I used my beloved black & white washi tapes and black & white ink pens. The last step was to cut the corners with my corner rounder of We R Memory Keepers. And that’s it. It took me only one evening to finish the entire set.

what’s on my craft table?

What's on my craft table? Project Life notebook | momentstolivefor

It’s been almost half a year since my last What’s on my craft table?-post, so I thought it was time for a new one. Although I don’t have much time for crafting at the moment because of our move, from time to time there’s a little bit craftiness around. Like my new notebook for my Project Life ideas or some new and really pretty MT tapes.

From my last Berlin trip I brought two wonderful, inspiring magazines back home: Uppercase & flow. I had my eyes on both for a long while now, but never ordered one because of the high shipping rates. But thanks to Lonneke of Bubblemint I found a store in Berlin, who sells these magazines (“Do you read me?!“, Auguststr. 28). Now I’m a happy and ready to sit down with a good cup of tea and read.

Finchen, my little cat, is always watching me, while I work on something, like my new set of black & white Project Life cards or some gifts for my friends I leave behind, when I move. For the gifts I ordered a huge pile of photos. As soon as the box with the photos was empty, Finchen sat inside. Cats and boxes… I will never understand their passion. πŸ˜‰

DIY little violet notebook

DIY little violet notebook | momentstolivefor

Time for a new notebook. My notebooks for my daily notes last about three months, then I need a new one. I make it a sport to create a one-of-a-kind notebook every time, like my travel journal and my favorite notebook with washi tape dots. Therefore I take a regular Moleskine notebook and make it my own by using stamps, washi tapes and other crafty things.

So here is my newest creation and the one I’m using at the moment: my little violet notebook.

For the cover I used a Moleskine Cahier Journal in light violet (official Persian Lilac), silver lined washi tape, some stamps, a white stamp pad and a silver gel pen.

I stamped the whole cover and tried to align them from left to right but not down. At the bottom I had too few space left to stamp it again with the first stamp. So I chose two other and used them as an eye-catcher. All three stamps belong to the rubber stamp set ‘Capture Life‘ by I lowe Scrap.

I draw drop down shadows on one of the stamps in the center of the front cover with the silver gel pen and on the two stamps at the bottom too. Then I used the silver lined washi tape to secure the edges and make the notebook look a little more classy.

Because I need a lot of to do lists, I prepared them for about three months and put them on the first pages, so I have a better overview and can put things down, that are not due until four or six weeks later. So I stamped the Go & Do stamp by Blinks of Life (sadly no longer available) on all pages, added the week and embellished the page with a stripe of washi tape.

DIY travel journal

DIY travel journal cover by momentstolivefor

When we planned our vacation from Munich to Vienna and Prague, I knew, I wanted to document it. Because I didn’t just wanted to write a travel journal the regular way on empty, boring pages, I prepared a Moleskine notebook with my beloved stamps and washi tapes. This way I was forced to think about little things too, like what I liked about a city most, that otherwise would have been forgotten.

For the cover I took many different washi tapes, stuck them over each other in different angles and cut the word ‘vacation!’ out. I saw this technique over at Whimseybox created by Alicia Dirago. Loved her typographic washi tape art so much, so I thought, it would be fun to make something similar for this little notebook.

On our last day in Prague, we sat in a beer garden and discussed the pros and cons of our way of traveling and what we loved and hated about the cities in particular. It was fun to see the different opinions.

Furthermore I prepared some pages with To do-lists for gifts, sightseeing spots and some photo projects, to keep track of all the ideas. It was very helpful to have this notebook at hand and filled it, whenever I had the time.

For this travel notebook I used the lovely stamps of Elise Blaha, Evalicious, Bananafishstudio, Amanda Rose, Amy Tangerine, I lowe Scrap and Blinks of Life along with some washi tapes. And if you’re wondering… yes, I have a really big collection of wooden mounted rubber stamps. It was so much fun, to use them for this little project.

project life filler cards by momentstolivefor
Hey everyone. I thought it was time for another peek at my craft table. The last two weeks I’ve been back to crafting regularly. Before that it was hard to find the time, because so much was going on, like newborn babys to visit, a wedding, some birthday parties to attend and some other stuff too. It was a fun time, but now I’m happy to be back on my craft table. It’s one of those things, that keeps me balanced and happy. My boyfriend loves, how I light up, when a package with new stamps arrives or when I show him some of my creations. Yes, this is my thing. Crafting.

One thing that was on my craft table last week, was the summer manifesto minialbum. I loved, that I could use Amy Tangerine’s Alphabet stamp set to print the numbers and goals. I could have printed it with my computer instead, but I wanted to use my hands. And I just love stamping. I’m totally into it right now. There’s not one day, when I don’t stamp something.

That’s why I’m so happy, that the last order of Elise Blaha‘s stamps finally arrived yesterday. It totally made my day, when I opened our mail box and saw the big envelope with the ‘get exited’ stamp on the back. At home I immidiately started stamping with them. I made some filler cards for my new project life.

Yes, I’m now a project life girl too. I considered for so long, if this was something I could follow along. But when my favorite craft online store Scrapbook Werkstatt in Germany announced, that they would sell project life products from now on, I was one of the first that ordered a starter kit. I choose the cinnamon edition album and the honey core kit. I must say, I was a little bit disappointed, when I discovered, that the album was brown instead of black, like the product photo shows. But I like it anyway, because of the words on the cover.

I already filled the first pages with photos and cards and I’m so glad, that I decided to do this project. It’s such an easy, fast and beautiful way to display your photos, when you don’t have time to design a whole scrapbooking page or minialbum. I still need to figure out, how to add text without disturbing the page layout, but that’s only a matter of time.
happy crafting everyone
