‚Make it happen‘ – this little garland should spend motivation, when I’m working on my craft table. It hangs above my head in my chosen colors for this year. This year is about getting things done, staying motivated and share it with everyone.
Since I decided to do this year’s Project Life album just with the colors black, white, grey and gold (more to that in another post), I collected and made a lot of cards. I cut some from scrapbooking paper like here from the awesome collection of Amy Tangerine ‚Stichted‘, painted some myself and collected beautiful pictures from Pinterest and put them in the right format. Now I’m looking forward to a lot of Project Life this year.
When I saw all these beautiful cards on Pinterest and was inspired by all the gold used lately everywhere in design, I started to design my own Project Life cards. Some are especially focused on my one little word ‚share‘, since it will accompany me the whole year.
The year of 2015 began with my one little word ‚share‘ and a whole lot of planning for smaller and bigger projects. I created a calendar with my „one little word“ to accompany while working on my craft desk. You can download it here. And I made a little board to stay focused on all the photography and craft projects this year.
Last week I finally ordered the rest of 2014 photos for my Project Life album and almost all photos of January 2015. I spend almost the entire Friday evening and Saturday with cutting, corner rounding and filling in photos into the pockets. Some of it I even did on Saturday morning in bed. Additionally I put some filler cards into old pages from my teen years and started with my 2015 album. So much fun.
Since I had so much fun with origami in December I made it a point to try some new origami projects in 2015 like the bows for gifts and the baby fox (found via How About Orange).
In December I was so busy with Christmas preparations and crafting little origami trees and Santas, that I never got to art journaling. Not until January, when I finally grabbed my art journals and started again and that with a big bang of an art journal marathon.
I don’t know why, but in January I feel like knitting. Like last year I started a new attempt. This is how far I’ve got until now. The problem is I started with too fine wool and knit needles. Therefore I don’t really see a progress and that’s not really motivating. So I plan to buy thicker knit needles and wool and hopefully I will stick to knitting for a long while.
When I gathered the photos for this post, I noticed how many pictures of stamps there are. Now I’m no longer only a washi tape addict, now I’m a rubber stamp addict too. Yikes. With the new alphabet stamps of Green Grass Stamps, I’ve almost filled a second box with mounted rubber stamps. I love to mount even my favorite clear stamps, because this way they are easier to handle.
Motivated through my craft challenge, I’ve already finished two projects, which were sitting in my backlog for over half an year. I’m so happy to have finally completed them – the ‘day in the life’ album from these photos and the ‘photo booth’ neon mini album. Next week I will share the later with you.
Aside from that, I’m working on my art journal in cooperation with Laura and Caylee for ‘Get Messy‘. And made one evening a little moodboard to have a starting point the next morning. It worked very well.
have fun crafting
Wednesday was one of those days when everything was somehow grey and went wrong. To have at least something beautiful at the end of the day, I made a cover for my new blog notebook. For that I used one of my new washi tapes. When I saw the new collection of tapes, I just couldn’t resist. I had to have them. They are so pretty!
On Friday we went to the funeral of my boyfriend’s uncle. It was so sad and rained through the entire ceremony. As if the sky was crying too. After these emotional days and eight hours on the road in our car, I had to do something creative, to relax and get my balance back. It ended with a lot of cleaned brushes. I painted two hooks with nut brown stain for our bathroom. They are not finished yet, because they will get little embellishments in light colors.
Moreover I had finally an idea for the three canvases, that waited to be painted for some time now. First I jotted some ideas down on paper, before I chose two designs. The third is still undecided. They will get little gold details later, when I have the time again. Tomorrow and Wednesday I will be away on a business trip. Maybe I have some photos to share with you afterwards.
have a good start into the new week
After these text heavy posts, I thought it was time for another photo post. So here are some shots from my craft table. Tables I have to say, because this time I used our large kitchen table too, to paint all of my wooden boxes with a dark walnut-brown stain.
At a local do-it-yourself store I found wooden boxes in different sizes, which fit perfectly into my Ivar shelves to organize my crafty things. I just have to paint them with stain, so they look more beautiful. But that’s only a matter of time, although there are seven big and eight middle sized boxes waiting to be painted. Yikes! But until then I’ve already tested, if all of my stamps and washi tapes fit in there. And they do, perfectly. Although I was a little shocked seeing how much stamps and tapes I’ve got! Is it already an addiction?
Sadly, I can’t get anymore stamps from Elise Blaha. The package arrived of her last sale in her shop. Really, really sorry, that there will be no more. Loved her style on stamps. And truthfully, she started this obsession with text stamps. It’s a good thing, there is no more room in this box for more.
In the meantime I bought two amazing magazines. Wanted to just pick up the new Uppercase magazine and stumpled about Frankie. Such a lovely, creative, beautiful magazine. I’m amazed, that I’ve never heard of it before. And I started a logbook, thanks to Austin Kleon’s book “Steal like an Artist“. It’s a motivating and helpful little book. Read it, it’s fun!
And that’s how it looks, when I try to make a photo for the blog. Finchen is instantly in the picture. Nosy little cat.
Although the last weeks were mostly filled with putting up new furnitures and working at my new job, I managed to craft almost every day a little bit. Here you can see some of the things that wandered through my hands the last weeks.
I used the chance to organize my craft table new, so I had more space to work and for example get an overview of all the missing pens. My cats love the empty space on my desk and sit most of the time next to me, watching carefully what I’m doing. As long as they don’t run over the still wet surfaces of something painted or glued, I love to have them by my side.
Although I love my iPhone and find it more than useful for many, many things, I still need a physical notebook to write my thoughts and ideas down. I love the feeling of a pen and paper and therefore I always carry at least one with me. The covers of these two notebooks I decorated with washi tape. One is my private everyday notebook, the one with the triangles, the other is for my notes at the office. Moleskine notebooks are my absolute favorites, perfect size and not too many pages. I don’t like to write into one for too long. I just need a change of scenery from time to time.
Two weeks ago I decided to try one of those DIY’s of my ever growing collection on Pinterest in the sense of ‘stop pinnning, start making’! The ‘decorative power cord‘ idea is from the inspirational Bri from Designlovefest. I had this DIY on my mind for some time. Sadly after only two days the ends of the tape didn’t stick anymore. If you have an idea, how to fix this, please write to me. The power cord of my iPhone is so pretty, I want that it stays this way.
This is a minialbum I crafted for friends I left behind in Bremen. It contains 1000 little beautiful moments I had with them in the last four years, recorded on 1000 photos. It was such a fun time with them… really miss them.
And what are you crafting at the moment?
It’s been almost half a year since my last What’s on my craft table?-post, so I thought it was time for a new one. Although I don’t have much time for crafting at the moment because of our move, from time to time there’s a little bit craftiness around. Like my new notebook for my Project Life ideas or some new and really pretty MT tapes.
From my last Berlin trip I brought two wonderful, inspiring magazines back home: Uppercase & flow. I had my eyes on both for a long while now, but never ordered one because of the high shipping rates. But thanks to Lonneke of Bubblemint I found a store in Berlin, who sells these magazines (“Do you read me?!“, Auguststr. 28). Now I’m a happy and ready to sit down with a good cup of tea and read.
Finchen, my little cat, is always watching me, while I work on something, like my new set of black & white Project Life cards or some gifts for my friends I leave behind, when I move. For the gifts I ordered a huge pile of photos. As soon as the box with the photos was empty, Finchen sat inside. Cats and boxes… I will never understand their passion. 😉
Hey everyone. I thought it was time for another peek at my craft table. The last two weeks I’ve been back to crafting regularly. Before that it was hard to find the time, because so much was going on, like newborn babys to visit, a wedding, some birthday parties to attend and some other stuff too. It was a fun time, but now I’m happy to be back on my craft table. It’s one of those things, that keeps me balanced and happy. My boyfriend loves, how I light up, when a package with new stamps arrives or when I show him some of my creations. Yes, this is my thing. Crafting.
One thing that was on my craft table last week, was the summer manifesto minialbum. I loved, that I could use Amy Tangerine’s Alphabet stamp set to print the numbers and goals. I could have printed it with my computer instead, but I wanted to use my hands. And I just love stamping. I’m totally into it right now. There’s not one day, when I don’t stamp something.
That’s why I’m so happy, that the last order of Elise Blaha‘s stamps finally arrived yesterday. It totally made my day, when I opened our mail box and saw the big envelope with the ‘get exited’ stamp on the back. At home I immidiately started stamping with them. I made some filler cards for my new project life.
Yes, I’m now a project life girl too. I considered for so long, if this was something I could follow along. But when my favorite craft online store Scrapbook Werkstatt in Germany announced, that they would sell project life products from now on, I was one of the first that ordered a starter kit. I choose the cinnamon edition album and the honey core kit. I must say, I was a little bit disappointed, when I discovered, that the album was brown instead of black, like the product photo shows. But I like it anyway, because of the words on the cover.
I already filled the first pages with photos and cards and I’m so glad, that I decided to do this project. It’s such an easy, fast and beautiful way to display your photos, when you don’t have time to design a whole scrapbooking page or minialbum. I still need to figure out, how to add text without disturbing the page layout, but that’s only a matter of time.
happy crafting everyone
This week my craft table was digital. I finished my first three greeting and postcard collections and designed a mini business card and business stickers. Yeah! Yesterday I ordered them via Moo, so they will arrive early before the craft fair.
It was so exciting, when I finally placed the order. No turning back, no hasitating. Now I must go forward, no matter what. Futhermore I can check one point off my life list: “design a postcard collection”. It’s an amazing feeling. I did it. It’s designed, proof read and ordered with my name on it. I created something, that someone else can buy. This feels amazing. Can’t keep myself from smiling 🙂
But at the same time I’m horrified, that I ordered too much. That the cards won’t sell. That nobody want to buy them and I put too much money into this. I thought it over and over, how much I should order, calculated the possible income and the possible debt I would have to take, if I won’t sell a thing on the craft fair. I got into debt before and I know it will take some time (at least half a year) to pay them back, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take. This is my big dream. Sell my own photographs. Work as an artist. So I have to risk something to give it a start. I know, there’s a possibility, that I will fail, but there’s also the possibility that I will be successful. Yesterday I decided to take that leap, to take off and try to fly. Now I have to be patient, again. Inside I’m trembling… this is so exciting!
