DIY summer garland with neon washi tape

DIY summer garland with neon washi tape by momentstolivefor

This summer I’m totally in love with neon. In America this isn’t a new trend, it’s alreay a little older, but in Germany this year was the year of neon. I think these colors are perfect for summerly decoration. So I used them within these tapes to create a summer garland for my craft space. I tried to make it as simple and fast as possible, because I’m really short on time at the moment. So here’s what I did:

The supplies: three types of tape – I used pink, orange and green neon washi tapes, white DINA4 paper, glue, a white ribbon, a set square und a pencil. That’s it.

1. At first you fold the paper lengthwise a little bit over the half. Then you take the little rest and fold it over again and glue it to the back of the folded paper. This way you get two closed sites. Turn the paper around, so the unglued side is up.

2. Then you draw triangles on the side without the little folded edge. With help of a set square you get triangles of the same size and width. I used the angle 75°, this way I got four triangles.

3. After you drew the lines, you can simply tape three washi tape stripes parallel to the long side of the paper. A little tip: If you tape the outer two washi tape stripes first, it’s easier to find the perfect middle position for the last tape.

4. The next step is to cut out the triangles. Repeat the steps 1.-4. at least two times so you get 12 triangles, better more often, so the garland will be longer. It depends on how long you want your final garland to be.

5. When you have enough triangles, you take the white ribbon, position it inside the triangles and then glue the triangles close. If you want to know, how this step works more closely, look over here.

And that’s it. The garland is finished and can immediately be used as decoration. Have fun creating your garland in your own style. It’s perfect for different tape combinations.

spring fling: spring garlands

spring fling: spring garlands inspiration by momentstolivefor { left & right }

These light garlands are so pretty and instantly give you a feeling of spring. The round circles and flowers in different spring-like colors like light green, light blue, white, light yellow and pink are gorgeous and the use of paper with text gives it a little extra, don’t you think?

But what would be spring without some butterflies. Even though here are papers with darker colors used, the garlands has a light effect, because the space between them is bigger. Very cute idea.

Another cute idea is this pom pom garland in this springy colors. If you are interessted in creating one, here you can find a good tutorial for making pom poms on the blog of Anna likes by Anna.

If you can’t decide what shape to use for your garland – circle, flower, butterfly – why don’t use them all in one. But to make the garland not too messy, you could choose only two or three kinds of paper. That way the shapes are more in focus.

Beautiful for Mother’s Day is the last garland. Only made with rose blossoms. Wouldn’t that make a lovely gift? And if you do it with dried flowers, it will last a long time.

DIY garland for reading corner

DIY garland for reading corner | momentstolivefor

This little garland should remind me to read more everyday. It hangs above my reading armchair next to my book shelf. Until now I only read in bed, till my eyelids drop. But since I reorganized my books and my reading space, I read every day for a little while between appointments or tasks from my to do-list. Love this new place.

The garland is very easy and fast to make.

1.You take an old book you won’t read anymore and tear out some pages, foremost pages with text only and no heading or pictures. Then you fold them always on the same line of text. It’s the easiest way to get the same length for all pages.

2.-4. Draw 3D-letters on the pages with a black marker. This way you make sure, that the text isn’t visible under it.

5. Choose a ribbon, place it on the inner fold and glue the short end of the page.

6. Then fold it over and run over it, to ensure that the two parts of the page stick together.

And now you are already disposed to hang the garland. Easy, isn’t it? 🙂
