Be open: prepare & share

This is the last post of my ‚one little word‘ for 2015. I loved these posts, because they helped me focus on my monthly goals and on the good stuff that was ahead of me. All the more I’m sad, that I didn’t had the energy to write the posts for August till November. Maybe I’ll be doing them just for myself, so the series is complete.

I’m sure, that I’ll be doing something similar next year, maybe a little altered. It was like a guideline for me this year, I could follow along so easily. The words I chose worked almost every month. At the start I gave it a good thought, what my usual yearly rhythm looks like and which events waited for me every month.

be open & share: August till November |

Therefore this month will be all about ‘preparing‘. What better word to choose for this time of year ahead of Christmas and a new exciting year:

Prepare our home for December with pretty and comfy decoration.

Prepare myself for the somehow stressful days of Christmas and plan moments/things to do to relax in between.

Prepare gifts early for all beloved ones.

Prepare the new year, set goals and review the old year: the good, the bad and the ugly.

Prepare the December Daily album with embellishments and more and start filling it every other day with photos and journaling.

Prepare regularly food to take with.

Prepare a bucket list for December like f.e. which Christmas movies to watch.

Have a wonderful Christmas time!

June was about exploring – exploring new places and hobbies. Like crocheting a rug or toy animal, working with new tools (wood work) or exploring new places and events around Berlin. It was a real summer month with many events and not much to do, more laziness and full of life.

July on the other hand will be all about traveling. We will be away for two weeks, traveling through Germany. No big vacation this year, because there are too many weddings and big parties we have and want to attend. But I really like to travel around beautiful Germany. Every area is different and full of adventures. This time we will explore the area around Mainz and Wiesbaden, will make a road trip to Luxembourg – so excited about this – and will make a vacation on the coast of the North Sea with my oldest friends. Besides that we will meet with some friends and visit our families somewhere in Germany. So here’s the plan for July:

Travel Berlin

Travel Mainz & around

Travel through Luxembourg

Travel to meet friends & family

Travel through Germany

Travel the coast of the North Sea

Travel to meet new people

Travel to visit new places

Travel to make new experiences

Travel to become wiser

Travel to collect new memories

So excited & up for new adventures.

In May ‚work‘ was my one little word I focused on. And work I did. Really hard and in multiple ways. I simplified our home big time, got rid of 8 bags of trash, sold several furnitures and have at least four big boxes that I want to sell soon. I moved my blog from Typepad to WordPress (more on that in another post). I organized my recipes, old notes, quotes and so much more with Evernote. I started to do sport every morning, really every morning (so proud of myself, I’ve stuck with it). I found finally a system for my old photos I’m happy with and started to organize them this way. I finished three big craft projects (two crocheted rugs and a wooden game). I reorganized all rooms in one way or another. I organized several of our events and vacations in summer. Feels so damn good to get stuff done.

Since the last month was so full with tasks and actions, this month should feel light and free. So it’s all about exploring, everything and everywhere. Nothing more, nothing less.

Explore the neighborhood.

Explore Berlin.

Explore new possibilities.

Explore new hobbies.

May 2015: be open - work & share |

You just turn once or twice and suddenly the month has passed. The last month didn’t work like I had hoped for. There wasn’t nearly enough time to create that much. I organized my UFOs and knitted, mostly while traveling but that was all. I hope, May and June will give me more time to create, since July and August are already full with events, travel plans and happenings. Therefore May is all about getting work done. As if I knew this at the start of the year, I chose ‘work & share’ as my words for May. How perfect.

Work & do all the things you need to do.

Work for something new.

Work with my UFOs and simply get a handful finished.

Work & get things done.

Work with Evernote and make it work for me for the perfect organization.

Work my annual tax declaration.

Work, work, work,…

April 2015: be open - create & share |

March was all about lerning. And I did lern a lot of things. Most of all, that living your life to the fullest and meeting friends and family are the most important things. Therefore my big lerning plans fell almost through. But the one thing I followed through with, was the video course by Xanthe Berkeley and therefore made my very first stop-motion-movie. Maybe April will bring more time for my own projects.

The next 30 days will be all about creating. Not only creating crafty things, but a whole lot of different things, but for sure will be the focus mostly on crafting. Most of all since I collected all UFOs (unfinished objects) in a box and was overwhelmed by their number. So it’s time to reduce this number severely.

Create little Easter gifts.

Create an overview of all unfinished craft projects.

Create delicious meals.

Create colorful, optimistic decoration for our home.

Create a whole lot of crafty things.

Create at least one new tutorial.

Create a second movie to share.

Create a new sharing routine for Instagram.

Create happy people.

Be open: lern & share

March 2015: be open - lern & share |

February went well thanks to my little word „try“. Although I didn’t do everything on my list like carving my own stamps or fill in Project Life 2014, I tried a whole lot of other things, like knitting for example. And like you maybe saw on Instagram, it was a success. I knitted five whole scarfs in February. The first two for myself to test my capability of knitting. One for my dad, one for my boyfriend and a small one for my goddaughter within three hours of a car ride. I think, I’m already addicted.

Beside that I tried some new art journaling techniques, new cooking recipes and a lot of new blogs to read. So I’m really up for March and what my new motto ‚lern & share‘ will bring:

Lern more about photography.

Lern JavaScript.

Lern to knit two-sided patterns.

Lern to shoot and cut videos – Perfect timing, I just won a place in the course „A Year of Creating Time Capsules“ from the always inspiring Xanthe Berkeley. I’m so excited about this news. I’m following her for over two years now and love her magical videos of everyday life.

Lern, how to make a writing routine work for me.

Lern to cook better.

Lern to set a new focus in my photography.

Lern to make the photo editing and archiving process more effective.

Lern to do some yoga at home.

Lern to take time for me.

Be open: try & share

The first month with my one little word went very well. I felt empowered by my chosen word ‚invite‘. Empowered to think about this year’s plans, new projects, things I want to accomplish, new habits and I invited new people into my life and friends into our home. It felt great to do these things and therefore I’m looking forward to the new month and what it will bring with the new word ’try’. To put my intentions for February in words:

Try new cooking receipts.

Try new photography styles.

Try new art journaling methods.

Try to make my own rubber stamps.

Try to make a stranger happy.

Try not to buy new supplies for crafting.

Try to fill in all the blank pockets in Project Life 2014.

Try new blogs to read.

Try to knit a scarf.

Try a new kind of post.

Try to speak up more.

Try new projects.

Try to avoid moving stairs and elevators.

Let’s go February. Here I come.

January 2015: be open - invite & share

Like you read yesterday, my word for 2015 is „share”. Every month I choose a second verb to accompany it and set a focus for this month. In January I chose „invite & share“, because I want to invite new things into my life. I will make plans for the upcoming year for new dates with friends, big events, share our home with friends and brainstorm about several new projects. To put my intentions for January in words:

Invite new things into my life.

Invite new adventures and experiences to enrich me.

Invite friends into our home.

Invite more people into my life.

Invite readers to inspiring finds.

Invite new ideas to settle.

Invite new projects and plans to grow in my mind.

Invite new habits to take their place.

I’m so excited, how this first month will go and what I will lern. So, let’s go!

my word for 2015: share

Be open & share

Since the last year was all about getting used to the new living situation with my boyfriend in our first home, in the new exciting and stressing city of Berlin and the new job, I had not much space for anything else. My word for 2014 „enjoy“ helped me focus on the moment and not being overwhelmed by all the new things hassling with me. Sadly it did not much more. It didn’t trigger any actions or projects and I simply didn’t work with it much. Now that we are mostly used to the new living situation and finally really arrived in Berlin, I have time and energy again for new exciting, magical projects.

My word for 2015 came to me at the beginning of December last year. I stumbled about some projects, like not damaging street art (little notes on street lamps and walls) or someone giving little gifts to strangers, which made me think, how beautiful it is to share something good and make someone smile with something simple as that. Above that I made a little video with a dear colleague for our firm about a social facility in Berlin named Die Arche. It supports poor children and their families by giving them a free meal after school, helping them with their homework and let them simply play and forget their everyday distressing living situation. When I packed a little package for them with some Advent calendars, some christmas decorations and sweets, it felt good and so necessary to share some of my luck with someone not so lucky. That’s when I decided, that „share“ would be my word for 2015.

A second focus will be you, my dear readers. I noticed, that I’m not overly open about my private life at my blog. That won’t change totally this year, but I will try to show you a little bit more about our home and life. I will try to share more of my knowledge and experiences, more of my projects and more of what inspires me. The hard part about sharing, especially the personal stuff, is being open not only to praise but to criticism as well. Therefore I chose another word to accompany „share“. It’s „be open“ and means to me: be open to new adventures, be open to new experiences, be open to new chances. Make new experiences and share them. Be open & share – I think, these two go very well together and set the mood for the new year.

Be open & share - monthly focus

In 2013 Elise Blaha chose additional to her one little word a verb for every month. I loved that idea and it swam around in my mind since then. Thus I chose a verb for every month too, to set the focus on a special part of my life. In April the slogan is f.e. „create & share“ – as you may have guessed, in this month I will post especially crafty things and even one, two or more tutorials. I hope these little words help me not feeling overwhelmed and trying to do every project at the same time. I’m very happy with the chosen words for every month. I think, they will fit the process of the year perfectly.

calendar 2015 - be open & share (giveaway)

I chose the #fromwhereistand pictures, because I always have wanted to use them in a photo project and when I scrolled through my countless collection of photos, I found several that fit the themes. So the deal was done. When I designed the cover photos for every month, I fell in love with them and had the idea to turn them into my new calendar for my workspace. It’s the perfect fit – I have a beautiful picture to look at and it reminds me of my focus for the month at the same time. And since „share“ is the word this year, I decided to share the calendar with you. You can download it here.

I feel energized and motivated. Can’t wait to start with all my little and bigger projects and tell you about them. So…

let’s make it a fantastic year

my word for 2014

enjoy: my word for 2014 |

Last year my word was ‘simple’ and it was a good word. I simplified so many things and got rid of even more stuff. Everytime I brought one garbage bag to the trash, I felt at least 1 kg ligther afterwards. This word I will hold in my heart this year too, because I can simplify even more. There is still so much stuff cluttering our new apartment, therefore I considered to take ‘simple’ as my word for 2014 again.

Though, after all this change with the move to the new city, the new job and everything it wouldn’t been right to take the old word again. So I thought about a word, something that I haven’t really done for a long time: ‘enjoy’. Just that. Just sit down and enjoy the moment, without taking photos, without thinking about the next project or my to do list. Just enjoy it.
And this includes not only beautiful walks or special moments, but the everyday, the little things I do, like cooking, riding to work, working at the office or buying something, I wanted so bad for a long time.

Therefore I decided to take it slow with starting new social activities like a choir or social work. Although I love to sing in a band or choir and definitely want to do something good for others, I want to calm down first after this stressful, emotional, hard year. I want to really settle in, before I stuff my calendar with new social dates and to do’s again.

I want to enjoy these first weeks and months in this amazing city to the fullest. I want to enjoy our relationship, as it is no longer a long distance relationship. I want to make our apartment beautiful and enjoyable, like I never did before. And I want to craft so much and write a lot of posts for this blog. That’s what I love & want & enjoy the most. So ‘enjoy’ it is for 2014.

enjoy this amazing year
